A new 16-story boutique hotel/residence, SOTA, is planned for downtown Sarasota. Trepp Developments (originally from Bolivia) plans to demolish three buildings on east Main St to make way for the new building, which will certainly liven up the area. A 4500-square-foot restaurant will offer another downtown dining option.
Trepp Development will build this project, a Tapestry Collection by Hilton will occupy the hotel, and the residences will sell with Michael Saunders & Co. The site plans are submitted and await approval. Developers and the city's Development Review Committee are still deliberating. This approval will allow the developers to bypass the City Commission if they remain within Building codes and regulations.
As we all know, several blocks of Downtown seem quiet. Office buildings, theaters, salons, churches, and even The Sarasota Herald Tribune represent the centers of business but certainly not the center of things to do. This new project will bring life to the east side of Downtown and liven up the city.
This exciting project can be the most significant new addition to Downtown Sarasota. The massive tower will add to our beautiful skyline, and when compared to several of the latest buildings, the newest Ritz-Carlton Residences, The Edge, and The Collection all feature a white and glass scheme that will all create an organized yet unique skyline.
